Rumba (aka Rhumba)Rumba, known as "the dance of love", is one of the most expressive of the latin/rhythm dances. The basic story of the dance is the woman alternately flirting and turning away. Using a "quick-quick-slow" basic rhythm, rumba can be danced to many popular songs. Built around a basic box step, the rumba is well suited for crowded dance floors and is designed to show off the woman, with lots of body line poses and swiveling motions.
What does rumba music sound like? What songs can I rumba to?
BoleroBolero combines the patterns of Rumba with the rise and fall technique and character of Waltz and Foxtrot. It is danced to the slower of the Rumba music selections. The basic rhythm of steps in patterns, like Rumba, is "slow-quick-quick". In Bolero, the couple slowly rotates to the left by virtue of a "slip pivot" (a rotation of the body on the ball of the supporting foot creating a pivot either forward or backward). More sensuous and expressive than the Rumba; the Bolero is often said to portray the next step in the story of seduction begun in the Rumba. | ||
